Obituary of John Edward Monroe
WESTFIELD - John Edward Monroe, age 93, of Barcelona, NY, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019, at Heritage Park Skilled Nursing Facility in Jamestown, following an extended illness.
John was born on August 14, 1925, in Westfield, NY, the son of the late Harry and Doris (Hanks) Monroe.
John attended school in Barcelona and graduated from Westfield Academy. He served in the Army Air Forces from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He had been a Commercial Fisherman on Lake Erie for many many years. Prior to owning his own Fishing Boat, he ran Monroe's Marina in Barcelona with his late brother, Duff". John enjoyed the outdoors and the many dogs he had over the years.
Survivors include his 3 sons, John H. Monroe and Jeff Monroe both of Barcelona and Jim Monroe of Dallas, Texas. John is further survived by his 3 grandchildren and his many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jean (Lant) Monroe, whom he married on June 25, 1948 and who died on April 5, 2000 and by his brother James "Duff" Monroe.
John's request was for all of his services to be private.
